About Us

Established in 1992, the North East Victorian Division of General Practice covers 33,000 square kilometres and has offices in Mount Beauty, Benalla and Walwa. It is a rural Division which incorporates the regional centres of Wangaratta and Benalla as well as smaller remote townships. The Division includes 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs). It is located within the Hume Health Region of the Victorian DHS, and contains approximately 45 percent of the Hume population. Serving the area's amost 113,000 population are 30 general practices, with 120 general practitioners, over 20 practice managers and more than 80 practice nurses plus general practice staff.

Statement of Purpose The North East Victorian Division of General Practice will maintain General Practitioners and General Practice as being central to primary health care by supporting General Practitioners and other primary health care workers in our region.
Guiding Principles The Division will:
• Be relevant to the members and other providers in the primary health care team and be responsive to their needs
• Ensure that every general practice receives appropriate support, education and assistance
• Support and encourage closer working relationships between health care providers in the region
• Support rural general practice to be viable now and into the future
• Generate ideas to improve health outcomes
• Support members in order that they feel that have a rewarding, well-balanced lifestyle.

The Division was reviewed with the Quality Improvement Council (QICSA) in Febraury 2010 and as a result of this process has received three years full accreditation status.
