In 1999 the North East Victorian Division of General Practice developed health kits with the aim of increasing GP involvement in the community and contributing to improving knowledge of health and safety issues in the community. These kits were named Community Health Education Kits (CHEK) and cover a wide range of topics to enhance the publics’ awareness of important health issues.
In recent times the kits have been reviewed to ensure they were still relevant for today’s issues. We now have 6 CHEKs available for use by Health Care Agencies, Community Service organisations and Schools in conjunction with North East Victorian Division of General Practice Members throughout the Division catchment region.
These kits are hired out completely free of charge !
We will pay a GP member in our Division area for their time at your presentation so the organiser’s only costs will be promotion of the event, venue and refreshments.
Any community group, organisation, sporting club or school community can access the CHEK range by contacting the Division's Education and Practice Support Coordinator at the Benalla Office.
The organisation/group that requests a health education kit is responsible for the advertising and promotion of the event, venue hire and any catering. You will be informed at to what audio visual equipment is needed prior to the event. The Division can assist in organising a GP to present the health kit.
A local GP and/or a relevant community health representative will facilitate the presentation to your organisation/group.
Each Health Education kit requires approximately 2 hours of presentation time.
Venues for education events should be chosen carefully as they need to be accessible to all people in the community.
GP payment for presentations will be processed following both the GPs and consumer evaluations having been completed and returned.
To ensure kits continue to be relevant to community, a compulsory component of using this kit is ensuring that attendees complete the evaluations provided and return them to the Division.
We look forward to the opportunity of assisting your local GP in their communities so if you require further information in regards to these kits or other topics, resources or issues involving the NEVDGP or if you would like to organise a Health Care education presentation in your Community facilitated by one of our GP Members.
