What is the Division's CPD initiative?
The CPD program has changed its focus from previous years. GPs who responded to a needs survey were more interested in small groups and specific topic events rather than lots of formal presentations on a wide but unrelated series of topics by a variety of providers.
The Division's CPD program is now more closely targeted to special interest areas such as radiology, men's' and women's' health, anaesthetics and other special topics as identified. CPD points are also earned by GPs through attendance at NPS practice visits that are arranged by the Division.
Small Learning Groups
Geographically the North East Victorian Division with 33,000 square kilometres is not ideal for regular one off meetings - no matter where we hold an event, travel is involved.
For the Division's GPs the most successful way of bringing training and education to them has been through Small Learning Groups. 59 GPs are involved in Small Learning Groups across the Division. Local involvement reduces travel and time away from practices and families. There are opportunities to select topics of particular interest to the members of the group. The Division supports highly productive groups working in Mansfield, Yarrawonga, Benalla and Beechworth.
What is the Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI)?
The Quality Prescribing Initiative assists general practitioners to keep up to date with information about medicines by participating in voluntary educational activities that are recognised or provided by the National Prescribing Service through the Quality Use of Medicines program.
